How to Jailbreak iPhone 4, iPhone 4s, iPad 3 or the new iPad on IOS 5.1.1 untethered using Absinthe on Windows, MacOS or Linux
Well it's been a wait worthwhile as the Chronic-Dev team releases Absinthe v 2.0.4 (which you can download from the original site linked).
Before I start, please remember that jailbreaking your device can (and likely will) render your warranty VOID. I am not responsible for how the Absinthe program works nor how you interpret the instructions herewith. Other factors e.g. viruses, background software, antivirus software etc. may and can interfere with the jailbreak process. If you are not certain how then don't.
You are jailbreaking your device AT YOUR OWN RISK.
Now that that's out of the way...the process is quite simple.
1. Make sure you have backed up your iDevice on iTunes before starting.
2. Update your device to the latest IOS 5.1.1 either using the Over The Air (OTA) feature or via iTunes.
3. Download the Absinthe Jailbreak v 2.0.4 (either from the original page or from the links below)
5. Run the Absinthe program (Windows users please right click and select "Run as Administrator")
6. Absinthe will ask you to plug in your iDevice and it will identify the device for you.
7. The process can take anywhere from 10 to 30 minutes depending on the speed of your PC and connection to your device.
IMPORTANT: Do not remove your iDevice until you see "DONE, ENJOY!" on the Absinthe screen, you could brick your iPhone/iPad otherwise.
8. Under no circumstances should you remove your iDevice at all - even if it seems like nothing is happening - something is happening, just watch your hard drive lights flickering to confirm that the program is working.
9. You will see the following messages...
11. Although the process is complete, you will have to start up the CYDIA program on your iPhone/iPad so that the software and repositories can be updated accordingly.
Troubleshooting - Windows users who encounter a program error during the install
i.e. Absinthe (Not responding) - whatever you do, DO NOT REBOOT YOUR iPhone or iPad.
Just restart the Absinthe program again and connect the iDevice. The Absinthe program will detect an incomplete jailbreak and clean up the files and restart the jailbreak process for you. (I encountered this due to the antivirus kicking in, ensure most if not all background services are shutdown before starting - this will be the safest way to complete the jailbreak).
Good Luck.
